Among the horses at Woodridge Farm, usually found hanging out with or as close to his “girls” as possible, is a non-descript, 10 yr old bay thoroughbred gelding named Rich In Dallas. Dallas’s career at the track included 69 starts at tracks all over the country. He was a hard running claimer from Arkansas who always did his best.
But millions of people know Dallas, not from his career at the track, but from his career in Hollywood! Selected by the studio as one of the horses to portray the legendary Seabiscuit in the 2003 blockbuster film of that name, Dallas had many major scenes in the film including my personal favorite where “Seabiscuit” is taken away from the track to “learn to be a horse again” and is filmed galloping through the beautiful fall Kentucky countryside, through woods and over bridges.
Dallas resides with us here at Woodridge Farm and excels in his new job as “Ambassador of Off-The-Track Thoroughbreds”, making public appearances throughout the year as an example of the intelligence and versatility of the OTTB. His endearing personality, willingness to try anything and ability to “reach” people, especially children, make Dallas a natural for his new role.
Between events Dallas enjoys farm life, including trail rides. His favorite farm event, however, is without a doubt the nightly “Cookie Time”.
